Schedule: Evening (2:30 PM–11:00 PM or 3:00 PM–11:30 PM) or Rotating (may include day or evening shifts)


Position Summary:

Under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and pharmacy leadership, the Pharmacy Technician assists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications. The Technician supports safe, efficient pharmacy operations and contributes to a positive, professional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.


Key Responsibilities


Medication Preparation & Dispensing

  • Prepare medications according to physician orders under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Unit Dose: Fill, package, label, scan, and distribute medications. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients (liquids, powders, ointments, emulsions) using proper equipment and technique. Maintain and refill automated dispensing machines; perform basic inventory of controlled substances.
  • IV Admixtures: Using aseptic technique, prepare and label intravenous admixtures and other sterile products. Fill syringes and reconstitute small-volume injectables for pharmacist verification. Maintain clean and compliant equipment (e.g., laminar flow hood).
  • Outpatient Prescription (if trained): Select prescription items for customers, complete required sale procedures, and comply with state regulations.


Technology & Documentation

  • Utilize pharmacy information systems (e.g., Epic) for patient lookup, prescription verification, label printing, and compounding/packaging tracking.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all medication preparation, dispensing, and deliveries.


Medication Delivery & Inventory

  • Deliver medications to appropriate hospital units or departments, following proper handling and timing procedures (e.g., refrigerated vs. room temperature).
  • Assist with stock management, including reordering drugs and supplies, rotating inventory, and checking expiration dates.


Customer Service & Communication

  • Serve as a point of contact for pharmacy inquiries via phone or in-person interactions.
  • Perform RX window duties: distribute medications, process paperwork, and assist patients or staff as needed.
  • Collaborate professionally with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other hospital staff.


Safety & Compliance

  • Follow aseptic techniques, departmental policies, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations, including the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy requirements.

Other Duties

  • Assist pharmacists in daily activities as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by pharmacy leadership.


Qualifications


Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pharmacy technician experience preferred.


Certifications & Licensure:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or PTCB credential required.
  • Must be registered with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy; maintain active certification.


Skills & Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with medication preparation, sterile techniques, and pharmacy equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of cash handling procedures for prescription sales.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and professional communication.
