Position Summary


The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the overall leadership and management of surgical departments, including staffing, operations, budgeting, and quality outcomes. This role ensures efficient patient flow, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational goals while promoting a culture focused on excellence in care delivery.


Key Responsibilities


Quality & Clinical Excellence

  • Lead initiatives to improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, and quality of care using evidence-based practices
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal standards
  • Monitor and reduce variation in clinical practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and operational readiness
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and clinical standards
  • Promote effective care coordination and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and competency alignment to meet patient care needs


Patient Experience

  • Drive strategies to enhance patient satisfaction and overall experience
  • Foster a culture focused on compassionate, patient-centered care
  • Utilize feedback and performance data to identify improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with leadership and clinical teams to implement best practices in service delivery


Leadership & People Development

  • Build and sustain a positive, engaged, and high-performing team culture
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback
  • Identify training and development opportunities for staff
  • Promote employee engagement, recognition, and accountability


Strategic Growth

  • Partner with clinical and administrative leaders to expand and enhance surgical services
  • Identify opportunities for new programs, services, and technologies
  • Support initiatives that drive growth, innovation, and market differentiation


Financial Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, including forecasting revenue and expenses
  • Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Optimize labor management, staffing efficiency, and productivity
  • Control operational costs, including supplies and equipment utilization
  • Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives


Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, ethical standards, and professional guidelines


Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Master’s Degree (preferred)


Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant leadership experience (required)
  • 3+ years of relevant experience (preferred)
