Director of Nursing – Emergency Services (RN)

This is not just another Director of Nursing position. This is an opportunity to lead one of the largest and busiest emergency departments in the region — a 24/7, 36-bed ED caring for approximately 46,000 patients annually, supported by a collaborative team of 70 RNs and nursing support staff.


You will also oversee OASIS Emergency Services — a specialized 8-bed unit dedicated exclusively to senior patients — providing a calmer, coordinated care environment with specially trained staff and access to a gerontologist. Two distinct and meaningful programs. One exceptional leadership opportunity.

This is a 263-bed acute care facility offering the community's only open-heart surgery program, a Certified Chest Pain Center, a Primary Stroke Center of Excellence, and the primary referral center for major trauma cases in the region. What You'll Do

As Director of Nursing for Emergency Services you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the ED. Responsibilities include serving as the accountable leader for Emergency Services operations, outcomes, and patient experience, driving continuous improvement in quality, cost of care, and patient and staff satisfaction, partnering with quality leadership to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and advance toward becoming a highly reliable organization, collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, and hospital leadership to enhance care coordination and service delivery, supporting provider and staff recruitment, retention, and engagement, overseeing ongoing staff education, competency validation, and adherence to clinical and patient safety standards, managing budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation across the department, and interpreting data and implementing performance improvement initiatives that move the needle on clinical outcomes.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — required
  • Active Alabama RN license or eligibility for licensure — required
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Emergency Services — required
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build effective relationships
  • Experience with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation in acute care settings
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and drive performance improvement
  • BLS and ACLS — required within a defined timeframe
  • Clean nursing license — no adverse actions
  • ER leadership experience strongly preferred
