Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Emergency Services to lead our comprehensive Emergency Department. In this role, you will ensure high-quality, patient-centered care through strategic oversight of unit operations, staffing, forecasting, and budget management. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of accountability and collaboration while driving the development and implementation of clinical strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with facility objectives.
Major Responsibilities
Quality & Clinical Excellence
- Evidence-Based Practice: Cultivate a superior clinical identity by identifying and implementing evidence-based practices to advance patient safety and quality outcomes.
- Operational Accountability: Manage variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost while maintaining transparency in care delivery.
- Compliance & Standards: Stay abreast of internal/external benchmarks, accreditations, and legal/regulatory standards, ensuring strict compliance across all policies and practices.
- Patient Throughput: Optimize patient flow, volume forecasting, and admission/discharge planning to ensure efficient, high-quality care delivery.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster seamless communication across departments, directing nursing practices and ensuring appropriate clinical competencies are assigned to meet patient needs.
Service & Patient Experience
- Patient Experience Leadership: Provide strategic direction to attain and sustain an unparalleled patient experience, establishing accountability for positive patient interactions.
- Continuous Improvement: Leverage patient feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance, identify service gaps, and implement elevation strategies.
- Talent Management: Build a highly competitive, engaged team by attracting, developing, and retaining top-tier clinical talent.
Financial Management
- Fiscal Oversight: Participate in the annual budget process, including revenue and expense forecasting, staffing models, and supply/equipment allocation.
- Budget Analysis: Monitor department budget performance, identify trends, evaluate variances, and execute corrective action plans to bridge financial gaps.
- Labor Optimization: Ensure effective labor management through precise scheduling, productivity monitoring, and strategic premium pay utilization.
Qualifications & Requirements
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
Master’s Degree (MSN, MHA, or MBA) preferred
Experience
3+ years of applicable clinical leadership experience required
5+ years of progressive emergency department management experience preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing large-scale operational budgets.
- Proven track record of improving patient throughput and ER metrics (e.g., left-without-being-seen, door-to-doc times).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Deep knowledge of state, federal, and Joint Commission regulatory standards.
