MRI Technologist (Full-Time)

Department: Diagnostic Imaging Services

Shift/Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8-hour days (multiple shift options available); requires on-call rotation of 1 day per week and 1 weekend per month.


Job Summary

The Full-Time MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. Working within a fast-paced diagnostic environment, the incumbent ensures strict magnetic resonance safety protocols are followed, maximizes patient comfort, and delivers optimal imaging outcomes while adhering to established professional standards and regulatory guidelines.


Core Responsibilities

  • Clinical Imaging Execution: Operate advanced MRI scanners to perform complex diagnostic imaging procedures (including neurological, musculoskeletal, body, and vascular studies) according to established clinical protocols and radiologist specifications.
  • MR Safety Compliance: Screen patients, staff, and visitors rigorously for metallic objects, implants, or other contraindications prior to entering the magnetic resonance environment (Zone III and Zone IV) to ensure absolute safety.
  • Patient Care & Preparation: Prepare and educate patients regarding the scanning process, positioning them accurately and applying appropriate imaging coils. Monitor patient comfort and well-being throughout the duration of the scan.
  • Technical Quality Control: Evaluate completed images for technical quality, ensuring proper contrast, resolution, and anatomical coverage before transmitting studies to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for interpretation.
  • Schedule & On-Call Flexibility: Maintain a reliable routine across available 8-hour Monday through Friday shifts, while fulfilling mandatory on-call requirements of one day per week and one weekend per month.
  • Documentation & Coordination: Maintain highly accurate patient records, verify physician orders, and collaborate dynamically with radiologists, nursing staff, and administrative teams to optimize patient throughput.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology or an accredited Magnetic Resonance Imaging program.
  • Certifications & Licensure:
  • Active registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography with a primary or post-primary certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging—ARRT(MR)—or equivalent credentialing by the ARMRIT.
  • Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) licensure issued by the Texas Medical Board (TMB).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of dedicated experience operating MRI scanners in an acute care hospital or high-volume imaging center preferred. Outstanding new graduates with comprehensive clinical rotations may be considered.
  • Skills & Abilities: Deep understanding of cross-sectional anatomy, pathology, and MR physics. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to calm anxious or claustrophobic patients effectively.
