Director of Surgical Services

As Director of Surgical Services you will cultivate a superior clinical identity by implementing evidence-based practices that advance patient safety and quality outcomes, manage clinical practice variation to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost, ensure full compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, develop and implement policies, procedures, and nursing standards that meet patient and family needs, ensure efficient patient throughput through volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning, provide executive leadership in attaining and sustaining an exceptional patient experience, foster a culture that inspires commitment to the organization's vision, mission, and values, identify development opportunities and provide coaching, feedback, and training to all direct reports and department managers, collaborate with the administrative team and physicians to enhance existing services and develop new service lines, participate in the annual budget process and monitor departmental financial performance, ensure effective labor management including position control, scheduling, productivity, and premium pay utilization, and identify cost reduction opportunities across operating expenses, supplies, and equipment.

- Reports directly to: Hospital COO
- Direct reports: 4 Managers — OR Manager | SPD Manager | Pre/Post Manager | Endo Manager
- Total FTE oversight: 80–90 FTEs
Facility Overview
- 404-bed Level II Trauma Center
- 13 Main ORs | 2 CVORs
- Robotics: 3 da Vinci XI + Mako
- Service lines: CV | Trauma | Ortho/Spine | General | GYN | Urology | Vascular
- 650–700 surgical cases per month
- Teaching hospital in collaboration with a major medical university
- Comprehensive Stroke Center | Heart & Vascular Institute | Pediatric ER | NICU Level II

What You'll Need
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing — required
- Master's Degree — preferred
- 2+ years of recent acute care Director of Surgical Services experience — required
- OR Manager experience in a large trauma center considered in lieu of Director experience
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing surgical teams
- Strong financial acumen including budget management, labor productivity, and cost reduction
- Experience with robotics programs — da Vinci and/or Mako preferred
