Clinical Pharmacist


Position Overview

A healthcare organization in New York is seeking a Pharmacist to join its inpatient team. This is a hands-on staff pharmacy position supporting the daily medication processes, order verification, dispensing, and sterile and non-sterile preparation.


The pharmacist will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to promote safe and appropriate medication therapy. The role is primarily operational/central pharmacy focused, with opportunities to provide clinical support and drug information as needed.


What You’ll Do

  • Review and clinically assess medication orders for appropriate drug, dose, route, frequency, allergies, interactions, contraindications, and other safety considerations.
  • Accurately prepare and dispense medications in accordance with hospital pharmacy procedures.
  • Support the preparation of unit-dose medications, IV medications, and other pharmacy-dispensed products.
  • Identify potential medication-related issues and communicate recommendations to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Respond to medication and drug-information questions from physicians, nursing staff, and other clinical team members.
  • Provide timely, evidence-based drug information when requested.
  • Prepare compounded sterile products while following applicable USP standards, aseptic technique requirements, and departmental procedures.
  • Follow required cleanroom practices, including appropriate garbing, cleaning, environmental monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with pharmaceutical inventory activities, including receiving, stocking, ordering, and maintaining appropriate medication supplies.
  • Handle controlled substances and other medications according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in medication safety, quality improvement, and pharmacy process-improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and compliant pharmacy work environment.
  • Follow all applicable New York State and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional practice standards.
  • Perform additional pharmacy-related responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:

  • PharmD degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy.
  • Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in New York State and in good standing.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to medication accuracy and patient safety.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with pharmacists, technicians, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively within a team-based environment.


Preferred:

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency.
  • Hospital or health-system pharmacy experience.
  • Experience with sterile compounding and inpatient pharmacy operations.
