Director of Diagnostic Imaging

Patients wait on answers that start in imaging. This role owns the reliability, safety, and speed of those answers—so clinicians can decide sooner and patients leave with clarity, not delay. You will set the standard for how a high-volume imaging service runs: quality that holds up to scrutiny, capacity that matches demand, and a team that stays.

Performance Objectives

• Cut median report turnaround and same-day add-on delays by redesigning scheduling, protocoling, and handoffs across CT, MRI, ultrasound, and general radiography.
• Raise modality utilization and first-time exam completeness without increasing repeat rates or compromising image quality.
• Hold the service to accreditation, radiation-safety, and regulatory standards, with zero uncorrected critical findings.
• Build a stable technologist and support workforce: fill open shifts, reduce premium labor dependence, and improve retention year over year.
• Deliver an annual operating and capital plan that funds equipment uptime, dose management, and priority replacements within budget.
• Improve referring-clinician satisfaction by closing the loop on access, critical results, and service recovery.
• Stand up clear scorecards—safety events, TAT, no-shows, productivity, and cost per exam—and act on them monthly.

Environment & Resources

You lead imaging operations and partner daily with radiologists, nursing, emergency, and perioperative leaders. The team includes modality supervisors, technologists, and scheduling staff. You will have PACS/RIS, dose-tracking, and staffing tools, plus authority over the imaging operating budget and a defined capital cycle. You report to senior hospital operations leadership.

Essential Qualifications

• Proven leadership of a multi-modality imaging department, including budgets, staffing, and physician partnership.
• Current radiologic technologist credentials and eligibility to practice; advanced imaging certification or a related degree preferred.
• Track record improving turnaround, quality, or labor cost with measurable results—not activity lists.
• Working command of accreditation, radiation safety, and critical-result processes.
• Experience hiring, scheduling, and retaining technologists in a competitive market.
• Clear communication with clinicians under pressure, and the judgment to stop unsafe work.
