Pharmacy Supervisor

The Pharmacy Supervisor oversees departmental operations in the Director of Pharmacy's absence and collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure positive clinical outcomes for patients of all ages. This role functions as a staff pharmacist when needed, supports regulatory compliance, and serves as a resource for the pharmacy team by addressing or escalating employee concerns.


Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Educate staff and hospital teams on pharmaceutical care and medication management.
  • Monitor pharmaceutical usage, costs, and patient outcomes; implement improvements.
  • Source medications and supplies cost-effectively.
  • Oversee scheduling, staffing, clinical programs, procurement, and waste management.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory guidelines and address concerns.
  • Communicate departmental needs to the Director of Pharmacy.


Technology Proficiency:

  • Use the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for clinical and operational tasks.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and analysis.


Compounding, Dispensing, and Restocking:

  • Perform non-sterile and sterile compounding per policy and standards.
  • Manage automated dispensing cabinet restocks and inventory.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for dispensing and restocking processes.
  • Properly classify and dispose of pharmaceutical waste.


Clinical:

  • Verify medication orders by reviewing patient demographics and parameters.
  • Respond to drug information inquiries and perform clinical tasks.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities and report medication risks or events.


Additional Duties:

  • Protect patient information per HIPAA regulations.
  • Conduct medication reconciliation and provide patient education as needed.


Qualifications

License/Certification:

  • Active pharmacy license in good standing with the State Pharmacy Board.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree from an accredited pharmacy program or equivalent certification preferred.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
