Position Summary

The Specialty Pharmacy Manager oversees the operations, compliance, and clinical performance of the health system’s specialty pharmacy program. This role ensures safe, effective, and timely delivery of specialty medications while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and regulatory compliance. The manager works closely with clinical teams, payers, and vendors to optimize medication access, patient outcomes, and financial sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily operations of the specialty pharmacy, including fulfillment, prior authorization coordination, patient education, and adherence monitoring.
  • Oversee staff including pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy liaisons; provide leadership, mentorship, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement workflows that align with URAC/ACHC accreditation standards and payer contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with providers, care coordinators, and case managers to ensure a seamless specialty medication process across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Maintain a robust quality assurance program with KPIs around adherence, turnaround time, and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and third-party payer agreements.
  • Coordinate with revenue cycle teams and payers to improve reimbursement rates and manage copay assistance and foundation support programs.
  • Work with IT and EMR teams to enhance data tracking, reporting, and integration into patient care workflows.
  • Support expansion opportunities into new therapeutic areas or sites of care.
  • Stay abreast of changes in specialty pharmacy trends, drug pipelines, and healthcare regulations.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or BS in Pharmacy
  • Active pharmacist license in good standing in Indiana
  • Minimum 3 years of pharmacy experience in specialty or ambulatory pharmacy
  • Deep knowledge of specialty drug therapies (e.g., oncology, rheumatology, neurology, HIV, etc.)
  • Experience with payer requirements, prior authorization, and HUB services
