Director of Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced PCU nurse leader ready to own outcomes, elevate teams, and drive excellence in a progressive care environment. You’ll provide 24/7 operational and clinical leadership for a busy PCU within a large, highly respected acute-care hospital serving a broad regional referral base.



Key Responsibilities

Clinical Quality & Safety

  • Provide 24-hour accountability for clinical excellence, patient safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Lead quality initiatives aligned with evidence-based practice and national standards
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, infection prevention, and patient-centered care models
  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes and throughput

Operations & Leadership

  • Drive daily operations, staffing effectiveness, and patient flow across the PCU
  • Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and professional practice
  • Lead rounding initiatives and proactive service recovery
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, and support departments

People Development

  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain high-performing PCU leaders and nurses
  • Support shared governance, professional development, and succession planning
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-trust work environment

Finance & Growth

  • Manage operating and capital budgets with strong fiscal stewardship
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities that enhance quality and efficiency
  • Support organizational growth initiatives and service line development

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute-care PCU leadership experience
  • BSN required (MSN preferred)
  • Active RN license (Texas or Compact State)
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • Strong experience in high-acuity, fast-paced hospital environments
