Pharmacy Supervisor
Location: Tulsa
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Supervisor provides leadership and oversight to pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, support personnel, and clinical pharmacy specialists. This role ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and achievement of departmental service goals. The Pharmacy Supervisor promotes a positive work environment, supports staff development, and serves as a representative of pharmacy services on multidisciplinary committees and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
- Supervise and support pharmacy personnel (approximately 40–50 team members).
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, counseling, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Develop staff schedules and assign responsibilities based on workload and operational needs.
- Monitor compliance with departmental policies, regulatory standards, and performance expectations.
- Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture focused on safety and service excellence.
Operational Oversight
- Review medication variance and allergy interaction reports; determine appropriate follow-up and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate findings and process improvements to pharmacy and hospital staff.
- Participate in formulary management to ensure cost-effective medication availability.
- Maintain and update automated dispensing systems and pharmacy databases.
- Assist with policy and procedure development, regulatory readiness activities, standing order revisions, and special projects.
- Prepare statistical, workload, and operational reports as needed.
- Provide regular updates to pharmacy leadership regarding staffing, overtime, service performance, and clinical activities.
Clinical & Distribution Support
- Perform staff pharmacist duties as needed, including medication order review, IV admixture preparation, verification of technician work, and medication dispensing functions.
- Support investigational drug services and other clinical pharmacy initiatives as applicable.
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve on interdisciplinary committees and workgroups to support integration of pharmacy services across patient care areas.
- Communicate process updates and workflow changes to pharmacy, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
- Interact directly with patients, internal departments, and external partners to support safe and effective medication use.
Qualifications
Required Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Preferred Education
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree preferred.
Required Licensure
- Active pharmacist license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy
- OR eligibility for Oklahoma pharmacist licensure through reciprocity.
Required Experience & Skills
- 3–4 years of related pharmacy experience.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to make sound decisions in dynamic clinical and operational environments.
