Job details
Location: Birmingham, AL
Salary: $35k / Year - $45k / Year
Model Room Technician
Every restoration starts with a model that is true to the mouth. In this role you turn impressions into accurate, articulator-ready models so technicians and clinicians can design with confidence. Your work sets the foundation for fit, occlusion, and the cases that leave the lab on time.
Performance Objectives
- Pour, trim, and finish stone models that match the impression and prescription, with margins, contacts, and soft-tissue landmarks intact.
- Section, pin, and die-trim cases so technicians can wax, scan, or finish without rework caused by model error.
- Mount cases on the specified articulator to the bite provided, and flag incomplete or distorted records before they enter production.
- Fabricate custom trays and baseplates that seat fully and support accurate records on the first try.
- Inspect incoming impressions and opposing models the same day, and return clear notes when a case cannot be made to standard.
- Keep model inventory, articulators, and case flow organized so promised due dates are met without rushed pours.
- Reduce remakes traced to model-room error by catching voids, bubbles, and mounting mistakes before handoff.
Environment & Resources
You work in the model room of a full-service dental laboratory, alongside ceramists, denture, and removable technicians. You report to the lab manager, use standard gypsum, vacuum mixers, model trimmers, pindex systems, and articulators, and have the materials and time needed to pour to prescription rather than to shortcut.
Essential Qualifications
- Hands-on experience pouring, trimming, pinning, and mounting dental models in a commercial or in-office lab.
- Ability to read prescriptions, identify impression defects, and decide when a case should be stopped.
- Reliable use of articulators and bite records, including common facebow and simple hinge mounts.
- Consistent output that holds margins and dies to a standard other technicians will accept without re-pour.
- Comfort standing, handling gypsum and vibration equipment, and keeping a clean, timed bench.
Role Selling Points
- Your models are the first quality gate—not a back-room chore—so craft shows up in every finished case.
- Direct partnership with experienced technicians who will tell you what makes a model usable.
- A steady mix of crown and bridge, removable, and implant-model work, not a single product line.
- A lab that measures success by fit and on-time delivery, not by how fast stone can be dumped.
Call to Action
If you take pride in a die that needs no apology, apply with a short note on the model work you do best and the cases you will not pass forward.
